This set represents a fairly unique moment in the game's life, as the format it creates in North America will be unexplored territory due to the bans of both RP Law and Enies Lobby. The Law deck proved to be not only very powerful, but quite oppressive toward several of the themes in this set that now may have a second chance at life.

[Activate:Main] [Once Per Turn] Give up to 3 of your [Animal] or [Drum Kingdom] type Characters up to 1 rested DON!! card each.

Marketplace price trend

Chopper is likely one of the biggest beneficiaries of the new banlist because this leader wants you to go wide with a swarm of smaller characters, which was very challenging in the face of RP Law incidentally sending them to the bottom of the deck. While there will still be challenges for Chopper from leaders like Rob Lucci, I believe the explosiveness of the deck gives it a fair shot of being a real player in the metagame. This is also Chopper's first appearance on a leader card, and there's always a market for Straw Hat leaders—even the ones who are emergency food.

[On Play] DON!! 1, You may trash 1 card from your hand: Add up to 1 card from the top of your deck to the top of your Life cards. Then, add up to 1 of your opponent's Characters with a cost of 6 or less to the top or bottom of your opponent's Life cards face-up.

Big Mom is no stranger to the top of the One Piece metagame as she already has multiple iterations in yellow that have been wreaking havoc on opposing life cards for over a year now. This time we see her in purple being a bit more generous than normal with the ability to give both players a life card, but in a way your opponent might not be incredibly grateful for. This actually represents a new effect for mono-purple decks, as Big Mom is the first card to offer them a source of life gain. This will have big implications for OG Kaido among other leaders that may have fallen by the wayside. The Big Mom card is going to be a staple of most purple decks for some time to come.

Speaking of purple leaders, this set adds two new ones, the first of which is a new iteration of King that should create a base for an interesting new way to approach more control-oriented game plans. The way this leader's minus cost effect is formatted doesn't work with traditional on-play removal effects, so this set adds several "Activate: Main" effects from cards like OP08 Kaido that directly interact with the ability. While it's unclear if the new environment will be a good place for King to thrive, I think this leader's uniqueness will draw a lot of players to try and find out.

[Activate:Main] [Once Per Turn] If you have no other [Black Maria] Characters, add up to 5 DON!! cards from your DON!! deck and rest them. Then, at the end of this turn, return DON!! cards from your field to your DON!! deck until you have the same number of DON!! cards on your field as your opponent.

Marketplace price trend

This card would've found itself much higher on the list in a world that still included RP Law, but she's also most of the reason why that is not the case. This card is probably the most powerful way to mitigate minus DON!! effects in the game, and when paired with RP Law, it proved to be too much, functionally making it so that Law's leader ability no longer had a cost.

With that card gone the applications for Maria get more narrow, but she still has a great deal of potential upside. I'm personally most excited for how the effect of the original Kaido leader to trash a life for -7 DON!! gets almost completely mitigated by Maria, making a starve game plan with that deck much more realistic. Even if Maria's presence in this particular format doesn't end up being large, it's hard to imagine this card not eventually becoming a staple at some point as long as they keep making minus DON!! effects.

[When Attacking] You may turn 2 cards from the top of your Life cards face-up: Add up to 1 DON!! card from your DON!! deck and rest it.

Marketplace price trend

Now we get to the second purple leader who functions in a unique way with a fair amount of potential. Pudding allows you to potentially ramp DON!! every turn this card can attack, but requires you to have at least two face down life cards to flip face up as part of the cost. The most important implication of this effect is that we now have the ability to potentially play 10-drop Big Mom multiple turns ahead of schedule. The kind of explosiveness certainly can't be written off and will draw a fair amount of interest to this leader, especially considering how popular Katakuri was in North America for so long. Even if the leader does not end up as a competitive mainstay, people's attachment to Charlotte Pudding should still drive a good deal of demand for this card.

This Character gains +4 cost.
[Activate: Main] You may rest this Character: Draw 1 card and trash 1 card from your hand. Then, K.O. up to 1 of your opponent's Characters with a cost of 3 or less.

Marketplace price trend

Jack may not be the most popular character, but for the first time I think we're likely to see him become a common appearance at competitive tables. This card is designed with an "Activate: Main" effect that directly synergizes with the King leader we just looked at, but the card is still strong outside of that. The large body and passive cost increase allows Jack to dodge the overwhelming majority of removal in the game, and each turn he remains in play he's getting huge value. Black already has a rich card pool, and Jack just bolsters that even further.

I apologize if this comes off as a shock, but we do indeed have another very good Nami card in a new One Piece set. This time it's her Egghead iteration that, while great alongside the Vegapunk leader, should have pretty broad reach across most yellow decks. Gedatsu has been a staple of yellow decks since it came out, and Nami fills a similar role in ways that may line up better for certain gameplans. Five cost is a very important breakpoint for interaction that makes Nami strong both on curve and moving into the later stages of the game. Add to all of that the obvious appeal of Nami as a character, and you have what I expect to be one of the more sought-after cards in the set.

This will be the third set that features a card unique to the English printing of the game, and while it's not a leap to say about a card with the main protagonist on it, I think this one might be the best. This card finds itself at the intersection of both highly collectable and highly competitive considering the prevalence of the BY Luffy deck. This iteration of Luffy has been a staple for that archetype while also popping up in others since it was released in the last set, and there's no reason to think that will change any time soon.

Another cycle of cards that we've come to expect in new sets is the special rares, and I think Two Legends might set the high water mark for these cards as well. In every previous group of special rare cards, there were around two or three that didn't really see much play or were otherwise notably less desirable than the ones at the top.

This time around, that is very much not the case, with every single one of these cards having a proven competitive pedigree with most featuring very popular characters. The floor for special rares in this set is alarmingly close to the ceiling of most other sets. I'm expecting Bonney and Pudding to come out on top of this stand-out crowd, but the distance between them and the low man in Gecko Moria shouldn't be large. I would be incredibly happy to open any one of these cards.

Here we have a character's first introduction to the card game, and it's done in the most splashy way possible. The first time the second-in-command of the Roger Pirates swims across the Calm Belt into the One Piece Card Game it's as a Manga Rare. It's a fitting introduction for one of the most legendary characters in the series. Not only does that status go a long way toward drawing attention to this card, the fact that this is the only Rayleigh card in the game (and will likely remain that way for some time) makes this printing even more of a unique item. As a game piece, this card is certainly powerful, but it's hard to say where it might show up, and what success it might have. We're entering uncharted territory, but that's what makes the journey fun.
