ONE PIECE (TCG)

The Netflix live-action version of One Piece releases this week, and if you're a fan like me this show is going to define who you are for the next six months. With an incredible crew of actors and Echiro Oda's guiding hand, this could be the greatest live-action adaptation of an anime of all time!..

Or at the very least, better than the Avatar: The Last Airbender or Dragon Ball adaptations.

To help you on your very own journey for the One Piece, we've assembled the most desired versions of each member of the Netflix Straw Hat crew you can obtain in One Piece TCG booster packs.

Luffy is the leader of the Straw Hat Pirates with incredible charisma, the will of "D.", and the ability to bunch up his arms and punch with the force of a ship's cannon. At the beginning of this tale, Luffy is just a street urchin that longs to join the pirate life with his father-uncle figure, Red-Haired Shanks. As one of the most infamous pirates of the time, Shanks stole the Gum-Gum Fruit, a devil fruit capable of granting near-limitless power, which Luffy promptly wolfs down like me with a moderately-priced dessert menu. With this new-found power that allows him to stretch his body like rubber, Luffy sets off to find crew members to help him on his quest for the One Piece.

As the main protagonist of One Piece, Luffy has been printed several times at different rarities and promotional variants. If you want the most expensive version you can find in a booster box, the Wanted Poster variant from the Pillars of Strength booster set is it. While the normal version of this card can originally be found in the Straw Hat Crew Starter Deck, the Wanted Poster variant is a significant upgrade for collectors. Tracking bounties is an important part of measuring your power in One Piece, which is often shown in the anime with Wanted Posters advertising higher bounties for important pirates. Collecting your favorite pirate's wanted posters was a notable pastime for those that wished for a more exciting life, and now you can collect them in card form too!

Pirate Hunter Zoro was the second member of the Straw Hat crew, joining after Luffy convinces him to fight against the marine regime and become the strongest swordsman at Luffy's side. Zoro fights with a unique style of using one, two, and three swords at a time, gripping the third in his mouth as he carves his way through his enemies. Over the course of the story, Zoro finds new swords and new techniques to improve his ability to cut down foes and remain at Luffy's right hand as the second most powerful member of the Straw Hat Crew.

Currently, the most valuable booster box version of Roronoa Zoro is the parallel rare version of the Roronoa Zoro Leader from Romance Dawn. While simple in design, the Zoro Leader has been a powerhouse for aggro strategies that want to rush down your opponent before they have a chance to set up. As a high-rarity version of a powerful card that also looks incredible, you can expect this Zoro to continue to gain value as the game grows.

Nami was the third person to join the Straw Hat crew, electing to join Zoro and Luffy early in their adventure so she could steal loot left behind in their adventures. While initially Nami intended on betraying the unsuspecting pirates for her own desires, she grew to trust them and rebel against the Arlong pirate crew that were holding her home town hostage. As the crew's navigator, Nami is responsible for keeping the crew moving forward and safe from dangerous islands, although the crew often changes plans to head directly for the most dangerous island instead!

The most expensive version of Nami found in booster packs is the parallel rare character card found in the Romance Dawn booster set. This card features an absolutely beautiful extended art version of the navigator wielding her staff for a mighty blow. In game, this card is a powerful extender that helps you search for more Straw Hat pirates to add to your board. As one of the most popular characters in the Straw Hat crew, Nami cards are likely to hold value and will be highly sought after.

[DON!! x1] When this Character's attack deals damage to your opponent's Life, you may trash 7 cards from the top of your deck.

The Straw Hat's number one sniper and master of ranged combat is Usopp. The tales of Usopp's bravery and power are miles long and have never been swayed by anything, least of all the truth. Despite his colorful interpretation of his own skill, Usopp has become the heart of the Straw Hats, often choosing to go against the crew if he believes they are wrong, and has saved the Straw Hat crew several times by calling on the power of his close friend, Sogeking.

While Usopp's power has grown over time, sadly his cards have not followed suit. His most valuable booster box card comes from Pillars of Strength at a disappointing $5.10. The card's power is also rather confusing, wanting to help support your self-mill win, but only doing so when he deals damage to your opponent… which seems counterintuitive when you already need to be dealing damage to your opponent's life total to win the normal way. Sadly, it seems like Usopp will never get his time in the sun as a popular card.

Not like his good friend, Sogeking!

Sanji is the final crew member to join the Straw Hats in the first Netflix season and is here to spice things up! Sanj Vinsmoke is the cook of the Straw Hats crew, serving up delicious meals from mere scraps to keep the crew well fed and powered up for their adventures. Like many other members of the crew, Sanji joined up to follow his own dreams: finding the "All Blue": a mythical conflux of the four oceans (East Blue, West Blue, North Blue, and South Blue) where all of the world's wildlife can be found. Despite his role in the kitchen, Sanji is a monstrous fighter that only uses his legs to defeat his foes, as his hands are only to be used to craft delicious meals and court beautiful ladies.

The most desirable card version of Sanji comes from the Paramount War booster set. This version is an alternate art version of the more common Sanji Leader and features fantastic anime-inspired artwork showing Sanji resplendent with his signature eyebrows. This Sanji Leader can run at the head of a powerful "vanilla" deck, utilizing his ability to play multiple characters each turn and overwhelm your opponents with an onslaught of attacks.

The Straw Hat Pirates continue to grow in crew members over the course of the One Piece story, but the first season of the Netflix adaptation ends before the crew reaches the Grand Line. If the Netflix adaptation is well received, we could receive a few more seasons to explore future arcs like Alabasta, Drum Kingdom, and Enies Lobby. If you're excited to see this new version of One Piece and haven't tried the One Piece TCG yet, now is the perfect time to set sail with the Yamato and Monkey D. Luffy starter decks.

Pick up your deck and set forth on your own adventure for the One Piece!
